Roly-Poly Polar Bear



     This cute little guy is really easy to work up. His size makes him great for little hands; and his roundness makes him fun to toss :)


Supplies:
     5.00 mm crochet hook
     Soft White worsted weight yarn
     Brown worsted weight yarn
     * colors based on Red Heart Super Saver Yarn
     stitch marker
     stuffing material
     yarn needle
     scissors


Abbreviations Used:
     Rnd(s) --- round(s)
     ch --- chain
     sc --- single-crochet
     st/sts --- stitch/stitches
     sc2tog --- single-crochet 2 stitches together
 

Notes:
     --- Be sure to move the stitch marker up as you complete each round.

 





~Pattern~ 

Body:
     Rnd 1: with Soft White, ch 2; 6sc in second ch from hook - 6sts
     Rnd 2: 2sc in each st around - 12sts
     Rnd 3: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next st; repeat to end - 18sts
     Rnd 4: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 2sts; repeat to end - 24sts
     Rnd 5: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 3sts; repeat to end - 30sts
     Rnd 6: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 4sts; repeat to end - 36sts
     Rnd 7: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 5sts; repeat to end - 42sts
     Rnd 8: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 6sts; repeat to end - 48sts
     Rnds 9-14: 1sc in each st around - 48sts
     Rnd 15: sc2tog, 1sc in next 6sts; repeat to end - 42sts
     Rnd 16: sc2tog, 1sc in next 5sts; repeat to end - 36sts
     Rnd 17: sc2tog, 1sc in next 4sts; repeat to end - 30sts
     Rnd 18: sc2tog, 1sc in next 3sts; repeat to end - 24sts
     Rnd 19: sc2tog, 1sc in next 2sts; repeat to end - 18sts
     Begin firmly stuffing the Body.
     Rnd 20: sc2tog, 1sc in next st; repeat to end - 12sts
     Rnd 21: sc2tog; repeat to end - 6sts
     Fasten off; leave a tail for sewing.
     Finish firmly stuffing the Body.
     Using the tail of yarn, sew the opening closed.
     Tie off and trim all loose threads.





Muzzle:
     Rnd 1: with Soft White, ch 2; 6sc in second ch from hook - 6sts
     Rnd 2: 2sc in each st around - 12sts
     Rnds 3-5: 1sc in each st around - 12sts
     Fasten off; leave a long tail for sewing.





Ears (make 2):
     Row 1: with Soft White, ch 2; 4sc in second ch from hook - 4sts
     Row 2: ch 1, turn; 2sc in each st across - 8sts
     Row 3: ch 1, turn; 2sc in first st, 1sc in next st; repeat to end - 12sts
     Fasten off; leave a long tail for sewing.






Legs (make 2):
     Rnd 1: with Soft White, ch 2; 6sc in second ch from hook - 6sts
     Rnd 2: 2sc in each st around - 12sts
     Rnd 3: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next st; repeat to end - 18sts
     Rnds 4-8: 1sc in each st around - 18sts
     Fasten off; leave a long tail for sewing.






Arms (make 2):
     Rnd 1: with Soft White, ch 2; 6sc in second ch from hook - 6sts
     Rnd 2: 2sc in each st around - 12sts
     Rnds 3-8: 1sc in each st around - 12sts
     Fasten off; leave a long tail for sewing.





Assembly & Finishing:
     Firmly stuff the Muzzle; position and sew to the front of the Body.
     Using the Brown yarn, sew a nose and mouth onto the Muzzle.
     Sew eyes just above the Muzzle with the Brown yarn.
     Position the Ears on the top of the Body. Giving them a slight curve, sew the Ears in place.
     Firmly stuff the Legs; position on the bottom of the Body and sew in place.
     Firmly stuff the Arms; position on the sides of the Body and sew in place.
     Tie off and trim all loose threads.
