Striped Silly Round Monster
This funny little Monster isn't here to scare you. He just wants to make you smile!
Supplies:
5.50 mm crochet hook
Green worsted weight yarn
Blue worsted weight yarn
White worsted weight yarn
Black worsted weight yarn
Red worsted weight yarn
* colors are based on Lion Brand FUN yarn
stitch marker
stuffing material
scissors
yarn needle
Abbreviations Used:
Rnd(s) --- round(s)
ch --- chain
sc --- single-crochet
st/sts --- stitch/stitches
sc2tog --- single-crochet 2 stitches together
ftlp(s) --- front loop(s)
Notes:
--- Be sure to move your stitch marker up as you complete each round.
--- When changing colors, DO NOT cut the yarn; carry the unused color inside the piece as you work.
~Pattern~
Body:
Rnd 1: with Green, ch 2; 6sc in second ch from hook - 6sts
Attach and change to Blue.
Rnd 2: 2sc in each st around - 12sts
Change to Green.
Rnd 3: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next st; repeat to end - 18sts
Change to Blue.
Rnd 4: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 2sts; repeat to end - 24sts
Change to Green.
Rnd 5: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 3sts; repeat to end - 30sts
Change to Blue.
Rnd 6: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 4sts; repeat to end - 36sts
Change to Green.
Rnd 7: 1sc in each st around - 36sts
Change to Blue.
Rnd 8: 1sc in each st around - 36sts
Change to Green.
Rnd 9: 1sc in each st around - 36sts
Change to Blue.
Rnd 10: 1sc in each st around - 36sts
Change to Green.
Rnd 11: 1sc in each st around - 36sts
Change to Blue.
Rnd 12: sc2tog, 1sc in next 4sts; repeat to end - 30sts
Change to Green.
Rnd 13: sc2tog, 1sc in next 3sts; repeat to end - 24sts
Change to Blue.
Rnd 14: sc2tog, 1sc in next 2sts; repeat to end - 18sts
Begin firmly stuffing the Body.
Change to Green.
Rnd 15: sc2tog, 1sc in next st; repeat to end - 12sts
Change to Blue; fasten off the Green yarn.
Rnd 16: sc2tog; repeat to end - 6sts
Fasten off; leave a tail for sewing.
Finish firmly stuffing the Body.
Using the tail of yarn, sew the opening closed.
Legs (make 2):
Rnd 1: with Blue, ch 2; 4sc in second ch from hook - 4sts
Rnd 2: 2sc in each st around - 8sts
Rnd 3: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next st; repeat to end - 12sts
Rnd 4: 1sc in each st around - 12sts
Rnd 5: sc2tog; repeat to end - 6sts
Attach and change to Green.
Rnd 6: working in the ftlps only, 1sc in each ftlp around - 6sts
Rnd 7: going through both loops, 1sc in each st around - 6sts
Change to Blue.
Rnd 8: 1sc in each st around - 6sts
Firmly stuff the Foot portion, Rnds 1-5.
Change to Green.
Rnd 9 & 10: 1sc in each st around - 6sts
Change to Blue.
Rnd 11: 1sc in each st around - 6sts
Change to Green.
Rnd 12 & 13: 1sc in each st around - 6sts
Change to Blue.
Rnd 14: 1sc in each st around - 6sts
Change to Green.
Rnd 15 & 16: 1sc in each st around - 6sts
Change to Blue.
Rnd 17: 1sc in each st around - 6sts
Change to Green, fasten off the Blue yarn.
Rnd 18 & 19: 1sc in each st around - 6sts
Fasten off; leave a long tail for sewing.
Leave the Leg portion unstuffed.
Arms (make 2):
Rnd 1: with Green, ch 2; 4sc in second ch from hook - 4sts
Rnd 2: 2sc in each st around - 8sts
Rnd 3 & 4: 1sc in each st around - 8sts
Rnd 5: sc2tog; repeat to end - 4sts
Attach and change to Blue.
Rnd 6: working in the ftlps only, 1sc in each ftlp around - 6sts
Rnd 7: going through both loops, 1sc in each st around - 6sts
Change to Green.
Rnd 8: 1sc in each st around - 6sts
Firmly stuff the Hand portion, Rnds 1-5.
Change to Blue.
Rnd 9 & 10: 1sc in each st around - 6sts
Change to Green.
Rnd 11: 1sc in each st around - 6sts
Change to Blue, fasten off the Green yarn.
Rnd 12 & 13: 1sc in each st around - 6sts
Fasten off: leave a long tail for sewing.
Leave the Arm portion unstuffed.
Eye (make 1):
Rnd 1: with White, ch 2; 5sc in second ch from hook - 5sts
Rnd 2: 2sc in each st around - 10sts
Fasten off; leave a long tail fir sewing.
Assembly & Finishing:
Sew the Eye onto the Body.
Using the Black yarn, stitch a pupil onto the Eye.
With the Black yarn, sew a silly smile onto the Monster's face. Accent with Red yarn, if desired.
Position the Legs on the bottom of the Body; sew in place.
Position the Arms at the sides of the Body; sew in place.
Tie off and trim all loose threads.
