Valentine's Square Ornament



     Here's a pretty little ornament you can make for Valentine's Day. Why not a whole bunch of them and create a garland?
 



Supplies:
     4.75 mm crochet hook
     Petal Pink worsted weight yarn
     Antique White worsted weight yarn
     * colors are based on Red Heart Super Saver Yarn
     cream colored ribbon
     yarn needle
     scissors

Abbreviations Used:
     ch --- chain
     slp st --- slip stitch
     dc --- double-crochet
     sc --- single-crochet

Notes:
     --- The pattern is just a basic Granny Square I have made for years. I have tried to break down each step so that even a beginner can follow the pattern.

 




~Pattern~
Foundation Ring:
     Using the Petal Pink yarn, ch 6; join with a slp st in the first ch to form a ring.





Round 1:
     ch 3 (counts as 1dc); work 2 more dc into the ring, ch 3

     Work 3dc into the ring; ch 3.
     Repeat the previous step twice more.
     Join with a slp st in the third ch of the beginning ch-3.
     Fasten off the Petal Pink yarn.





Round 2:
     Join the Antique White yarn to any ch-3 space.
     ch 3 (counts as 1dc); work [2dc, ch 3, 3dc] into the same space to form a corner.


     ch 1, work [3dc, ch 3, 3dc] into the next ch-3 space to form a corner
 

     
     Repeat the previous step twice more.
     ch 1, join with a slp st to the third ch of the beginning ch-3
     Fasten off the Antique White yarn.

 





Round 3:
     Join the Petal Pink yarn to any ch-3 corner space.
     ch 3 (counts as 1dc); work [2dc, ch 3, 3dc] into the same space to form a corner.


      ch 1, 3dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, work [3dc, ch 3, 3dc] into the next ch-3 space

     Repeat the previous step to the end, ending with a ch 1.
     Join with a slp st to the third ch of the beginning ch-3.
     DO NOT fasten off.







Round 4:
     ch 1, 1sc in each dc and ch-1 space of Round 3
     Work [2sc, ch 1, 2sc] in each ch-3 corner space.
     DO NOT fasten off.



 



Finishing:
     slp st to the nearest corner
     ch 25; slp st in the same corner to create a hanging loop
     Fasten off.


     Cut a length of cream ribbon.
     Run the ribbon through the bottom of the ornament and tie into a bow; trim the ends.


      Tie off and trim all loose threads.
